Our English curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced to enable our children to build knowledge and skills sequentially and cumulatively. We follow the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum for Key Stage One and we prioritise securing strong foundational knowledge. We use a progressive play based approach throughout EYFS and Key Stage One, informed by a strong evidence base.

Children are taught through a combination of carefully planned Learning Journeys (carefully selected contexts which build upon our children’s starting points, and respond to the social and emotional needs of our children) and Continuous Provision (‘Discovery Time’) through a blend of explicit instruction, repeated practice, high quality interactions, purposefully planned enhancements and independent play.

At Rosedale, high quality ‘Treasured Texts’ are at the heart of our curriculum; our entire Learning Journey each half term is inspired by these texts. We have one or two ‘core’ texts and we also introduce weekly treasured texts to the children to drive each journey forward. 

 At Rosedale, we teach handwriting daily through 'Kinetic Letters'. Our sessions are fun-filled and teach children letter formation through movement. We strengthen our core muscles to help our writing through daily exercises.
