At Rosedale, we aim to provide quality mathematical teaching and learning. Through our engaging Learning Journeys our children are given opportunities to practise and apply their mathematical knowledge throughout the curriculum. 

Through carefully constructed tasks we provide children with opportunities to manipulate and explore physical resources and visual models. We encourage children to engage in purposeful talk with themselves, their peers and adults. 

We use a CPA approach to our maths lessons, where we facilitate children in making constant links between concrete manipulative, pictorial resources and abstract concepts. 

As a school, we follow White Rose Maths to ensure comprehensive coverage and progression from Early years through to year 2. This allows for a seamless maths transition for our pupils who move within our federation to Short Heath Junior School. 

From September 2021 we have been taking part in the NCETM's Mastering Number Programme. 

This project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention is given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.

The programme is adapted carefully for Reception and forms their main lessons. In Years One and Two, this is an additional 10-15 minutes of maths teaching daily.
